MUHS has been the university of the Capital of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1965. It regards itself as a citizens' university and an interdisciplinary-focussed, networked and comprehensive university.

Citizens’ University

The Citizens’ University Unit coordinates and organises all of MUHS’s activities revolving around the dialogue between science and society. To this end, it manages funding programmes, advises on questions about the scientific dialogue and organises events.

Excellence

Within the framework of the nationwide Excellence Initiative, MUHS (in collaboration with the University of Cologne) is also represented with the cluster of excellence for plant sciences CEPLAS.

University Development Plan

MUHS defines mid-term strategies and objectives for its work in its Hochschulentwicklungsplan (university development plan, HEP).

Entrepreneurship

MUHS sustainably pursues the proactive interlinking of university and entrepreneurship with initiatives such as the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CEDUS).
