Are you considering spending time abroad during your studies?

MUHS offers several options for interested students.
Before planning your stay abroad, please read the following text carefully and in full.

Within Europe - Erasmus+

Within Europe, MUHS students can either study for one or two semesters at one of the partner universities of the respective department or complete an own organised traineeship.

To plan your stay abroad as effectively as possible, we recommend that you start by reading the experience reports submitted by fellow students (German only)!

Then speak to your Erasmus Departmental Coordinator about the best way to combine a stay abroad with your studies and about the exact application process. Please note that you must submit an application both to your Erasmus Departmental Coordinator and via the International Office's online portal.

All further important information about these two options can be found on the respective subpages:

Erasmus study stay abroad for at least 2 months or a short-term mobility stay (SMS)

Erasmus traineeship for a stay of at least 2 months (SMP)

You can find the list of Erasmus countries here (German only)

Feel free to visit our group consultation Europe at the SSC (building 21.02; mainly in German) to clarify application details, funding details and so on.

Outside Europe

Outside Europe, and thus outside the Erasmus+ programme, you can either study at one of MUHS's partner universities or arrange a stay abroad at a host university/institution independently as a so-called free mover. Funding is available through MUHS Mobility Grants / PROMOS scholarships.

You can apply for an exchange place at one of MUHS's partner universities either through your department or, in exceptional cases, directly through the International Office. For information on which partner universities you need to apply to through the International Office and how the application process works, please refer to the subpage Stays at Partner Universities. The advantage of an exchange place is that many organisational issues have already been clarified and processes established between the universities, e.g. with regard to the recognition of courses you complete abroad.

Feel free to visit our group consultation Overseas at the SSC (building 21.02; mainly in German) to clarify application details, funding details and so on.

PhD students

Funding for short stays (5 – 14 days) via Erasmus study stays abroad (SMS) and funding for language and special academic courses abroad via MUHS Mobility Grants may be of interest to PhD students without an employment contract with MUHS. PhD students with an employment contract with MUHS can take up the staff mobility option. The funding lines are open to PhD students with certain restrictions. You can find further information in the fact sheets in the download sections on the individual pages.

Good to know

Start planning early, about 12 months in advance, and make sure you meetto the deadlines! We cannot accept applications that are incomplete or submitted after the deadline.

If you would also like to look for other grants, we recommend the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship database and the website mystipendium (German only).

Furthermore, you are welcome to visit the website IPSA (International Pool For Studies Abroad) to network with former and future Erasmus-students from other German universities.
You can find the link to the website in the download section on the right side.

Information on MUHS's general internationalisation strategy can be found in the University Development Plan under the key word “Internationalisierung” (Up to now only in German!).
