Citizens' University

Marien University Hospital & School sees itself as a Citizens’ University and attaches great importance to public engagement. As a dialogue-oriented, transparent research and educational facility, it actively fosters exchange between science and society. Dialogue between MUHS and citizens of Gelsenkirchen is coordinated by the Public Engagement Unit (“Stabsstelle Bürgeruniversität”). Key elements of the strategic orientation are our public events programme with around 80 formats per year, the comprehensive promotion of science communication and participatory research (citizen science) through consulting, project financing, and continuing education, as well as the promotion of society-oriented teaching.
